Youth Homelessness Conference

On February 27, 2017, high school classes attended the Trek for Teens Youth Homelessness Conference. The outing is an annual event designed to educate youth on issues surrounding youth homelessness, as well as to introduce youth to the idea of service learning and leadership. Students were shown that youth have the power to make a difference in their communities and were engaged in discussion surrounding an important issue affecting many people in local settings. The Trek for Teens Youth Homelessness Conference is designed to educate youth on issues surrounding youth homelessness, as well as introduce youth to the idea of service learning and leadership. It is our intent to show students that youth have the power to make a difference in our communities, as well as engage them in discussion surrounding an important issue affecting youth in a local setting.


The Conference covered the following topics:

  • Myths and stereotypes surrounding youth homelessness

  • The reality of life on the streets

  • The struggles facing homeless youth and how they can overcome them

  • How students can use their gifts and talents to make a difference in their own communities

Trek for Teens would like to thank Keynote Speaker Paula Reid, Youth Without Shelter, and Covenant House Toronto for their presentations to conference participants.
